1. Get Background Information

Our library has many specialized encyclopedias, in print and online, with introductory information on your topic.

Credo Reference, with over 600 electronic reference books, is a great place to start

Search the Reference Collection


2. Find Books

Search Allecat, the catalog of print or electronic books available at Allegheny.

Keyword searches usually are the best way to start your search. 

When you find a book title that looks good, click on any terms in the Subject field for additional relevant books.


Find Journal Articles

To find Journal Articles, start with an Index.   

There are some great indexes available,  Look at the Finding Articles tab.



4. Find Internet Resources

Click the Websites tab for some great Internet resources. 


5. Evaluate everything

Your professor expects you to assess everything you find -                                                                                                                                                                                          Is it reliable?  How do you know? Is it fact or opinion?  Who created the site?

6. Cite what you find

Record the where you found your information.  There is a precise way to cite your information correctly.

These three guides will help you to cite stuff correctly.
