Course Basics

FS 101: Musical Synthesis
Professor: Lowell Hepler
Librarian:  Cynthia Burton

Assignment:  Identify a significant issue that relates the arts to society.

Use resources that you learn about during our library session to find information about the issue, and prepare a two-page paper in which you define the issue, state why it is of social significance, and provide some background information on the issue.

It is not necessary at this point to argue one point over another.  Rather, use this paper to define the relative and possibly competing viewpoints.

How to Find Books at Pelletier Library and Beyond!

The online Catalog for Pelletier Library is called Allecat

Start out with key word searches, using the suggestions for improving your search.
      Some examples:

art and society
 music and society
literature and society

As you experiment, look for the subject headings that are assigned to titles that interest you.

                   Sex Role in Music
                   Street Art
                   Music in Advertising
                   Politics and Literature

Select relevant titles.  You may create a list using the bookcart/view saved feature if you wish.

Locate and browse selected titles.  They may be ebooks or physical books.  If needed, go back to Allecat to do a new search using new terms.  Always feel free to ask a reference librarian or your professor for help is you feel you are stuck.
