What are journal alert services?

How does one stay informed of current journal literature in this era of information overload?

Many individual journals list current table of contents on their websites, and the JournalTOCs service lists current table of contents from thousands of individual journals. However, rather than having to remember to go to these sites, wouldn't it be nice to have this information sent directly to your email?

Thankfully, Allegheny’s major databases providers allow you to create customized alerts that will email you when new content has been added to your favorite academic journal. These databases also allow you to save a search, which can then be turned into an email alert so that you will be notified when the search returns newly published literature. Click the links above to see how to create alerts in Proquest, EBSCOhost, or Web of Science databases.
