Special Collections of Pelletier Library

The Ex-Dono Collection (closed in 1825) was established for the books given to the library in its early years outside of the original donors of Bentley, Winthrop and Thomas. The Library Catalogue of 1823 lists the books in this collection.

Books, again rare and unique, that were donated or purchased for the library after 1825 are housed in the Miscellaneous After 1825 Collection. As the name suggests, it is truely a potpourri collection. Within this collections exists 16th and 17th century English Bibles, among them the noted "Vinegar Bible", as well as 17th and 18th century German Bibles. To complement the bibles, there are several 16th century Book of Hours illuminated manuscripts donated by Rev. Dr. Charles Carroll Albertson, D.D. 1899.

Signed, limited editions of literature and art books can be found in the B in T Collection. The collection contains The Yellow Book, and several small press publications from The Roycroft Press and Peter Pauper Press.

American history can be found in various collections. The Lincoln Collection was original created by Ida M. Tarbell, Class of 1880. This collection contains many of Ida Tarbell's collected books. The collection also contains gifts from Mr. John Schiede from Titusville, Pennsylvania. His interest in Lincoln grew out of Ida M. Tarbell's writings on Abraham Lincoln. The Lewis Walker Collection is a repository of Civil War books and, of general interest in American history, there is the Americana Collection.

The Ida M. Tarbell Collection contains the professional papers and books of Ida M. Tarbell, Class of 1880, noted journalist and author. This collection also contains her notes, letters pertaining to her years of Lincoln research and writings. Tarbell's papers pertaining to the Standard Oil Company can be found at the Drake Well Museum in Titusville, Pennsylvania. Their telephone number is 814-827-2797.
